Key decisions
| Choice | Plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Leveling spec | Feral (Cat) | Free Tiger's Fury + King of the Jungle energy, baseline Omen of Clarity, bleeds that crit, Berserk capstone; kill fast and heal between pulls. |
| Level-60 main role | Restoration (Bear as dungeon backup) | 10- and 20-player raids make party-wide healing (Wild Growth, Rejuv→Swiftmend) premium; healing gear now also gives spell damage for solo play. |
| Weakest spec right now | Balance | Community calls it "meh" and point-starved; still brings the Moonkin crit aura. |
| Race | Skyborne (Windshaper), Horde | Wind Blessed haste works in every form, the travel kit suits a druid who lives in forms, and the forms are exclusive. Tauren edges out on raw numbers for a tank; for a Resto-leaning druid the gap is negligible. Your Warcraft Forever Collection already unlocks Skyborne. |
| Professions | Herbalism + Alchemy (+ Cooking, Fishing) | Self-feeding: every herb becomes potions, elixirs and flasks; two caster camp buffs (Intellect and mana regen); consumables for both characters. Also Warcraft Tavern's pick for a raiding Restoration Druid. |
| Legacy perks | Talented, Bountiful Harvest, Working Overtime, Frequent Flier, Reagent Economy | Extra talent point early, more herbs, faster skill-ups, cheaper flights, no Rebirth/Gift reagents to buy. |
Why Skyborne for a Druid
- Unique forms Official: Blizzard made Skyborne-specific druid forms. Shown so far: a feathered bird-bear Bear, bird-feline Cat, and bird-themed Travel Form (Wowhead). Two outlets also saw a Skyborne Moonkin in the preview (unconfirmed). No aquatic form shown; no Tree of Life in Forever.
- Serpent Form Confirmed: every Druid race, Skyborne included, can unlock the hidden Serpent Form from the Wailing Caverns Embrace of the Viper set, each in its own color. Wowhead's datamine lists the set bonuses as 2pc Intellect, 3pc Attack Power, 4pc "Embrace of the Viper", 5pc "Dream Venom".
- Start: Zephras Isle, levels 1–12, a one-time sanctuary zone (Thendal Village → Shadowgate Forest → Ruins of Ban'aethal).
Skyborne (Horde) vs Tauren racials for a Druid
| Race | Racial | Effect | Druid value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skyborne | Wind Blessed (passive) | +1% melee, ranged and spell haste | Helps every spec, always on in forms |
| Skyborne | Skysight (active, Horde) | +10% run speed | Great for questing/herbing; stacking with Travel Form unconfirmed |
| Skyborne | Walk on Air (active) | 10-sec downward glide | Cliff shortcuts, no fall damage; form interaction unknown |
| Skyborne | Elemental Insight (passive) | +5% damage to Elementals | Situational (elemental farming, some raids) |
| Tauren | Endurance (passive) | +5% health, +1% hit | Strongest for bear tanks and all DPS |
| Tauren | War Stomp (active) | 2-sec AoE stun | Classic couldn't use it in forms — unconfirmed for Forever |
| Tauren | Plainsrunning / Cultivation | Speed while moving / bonus herbs | Travel and herb supplement |
Spec analysis
Feral — Cat
- Changes
- Tiger's Fury = +15% physical damage every 30 s with no energy cost; King of the Jungle adds 60 energy; Primal Bite (formerly Mangle), Berserk (3 min: +crit on combo builders, fear immunity); Rend and Tear rewards bleeds; bleeds can crit; powershifting removed (Furor rework).
- Strengths
- Burst windows, self-sufficient leveling, Leader of the Pack crit aura.
- Weaknesses
- Hybrid DPS may trail pure classes in raids (opinion); loss of powershift skill ceiling.
Feral — Bear
- Changes
- Primal Bite (formerly Mangle) (6-s cooldown big hit), Lacerate stacking bleed, Berserk makes Primal Bite hit 3 targets with no cooldown, Natural Reaction (dodge + rage).
- Strengths
- Real multi-target threat tools — fixes Classic bear AoE weakness; strong in 5-player dungeons.
- Weaknesses
- Separate tank gear; raid main-tank standing unknown.
Restoration
- Changes
- Wild Growth 31-pt capstone (party HoT, 6-s cooldown); Swiftmend no longer eats your HoT; Gift of the Earthmother cuts GCD on Rejuv/Swiftmend/Wild Growth; Reflection (mana regen while casting); HoTs can crit.
- Strengths
- Fastest party burst healing in the game (Rejuv→Swiftmend), perfect for 10/20-player raids.
- Weaknesses
- No Lifebloom or Tree of Life; some players feel Resto got fewer toys.
Balance
- Changes
- Eclipse (Wrath shortens next 2 Starfires, 4 charges), Balance of Nature, Nature's Grace now 10% cast speed + GCD reduction, Moonkin aura boosts all crit types, Insect Swarm moved into Balance.
- Strengths
- Raid crit aura, deeper rotation, better mana/threat.
- Weaknesses
- Community calls it "meh"; many mandatory 5-point talents.
Gear and extras
- Wailing Caverns side goal: farm the five Embrace of the Viper ("of the Fang") pieces for the hidden Serpent Form — a collectible you keep even after you out-level the stats (transmog, if you turn it on, can keep the look).
- Druid Idols (Idol of the Dream, Magic Mushroom, Talons of Wrath) are Enchanting crafts; buy them from an enchanter.
- Riding: Burning Crusade-style: the gold goes into training and you get a mount; levels/costs not published yet.
- Healing Potions moved to First Aid; Alchemy keeps a "Discolored" healing potion with a drawback Reported. Keep First Aid on this character for clean potions.
Still unknown (beta will tell)
- Where Horde Skyborne go after level 12, and their druid trainer location.
- Whether Walk on Air / Skysight work in forms and stack with Travel Form.
- Skyborne Moonkin/Aquatic forms; any cosmetic Tree of Life.
- Which Embrace of the Viper piece count triggers Serpent Form, whether it has combat stats, and the Skyborne serpent's color.
- Single-source reports to confirm: Nature's Grasp now baseline (Mobalytics); Balance of Nature removed (low-tier datamine tracker, disputed — kept in the builds for now).
- Exact Eclipse values and several higher-rank talent numbers; how haste affects energy and HoT ticks.
- Credible leveling/endgame builds from Icy Veins, Wowhead or Method (none published yet).
- Can Druids gather herbs in Travel Form?
- Skill requirements and sources for the Flasks of Natural Accuracy/Aggression/Precision/Swiftness.
